The 2019 sustainable Christmas gift guide

In less than a month it’s Christmas and Black Friday is coming! This is the perfect time to start our Christmas shopping to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones. For me, when choosing gifts, the most important thing to consider is sustainability, trying to do good to the planet as well as to the person who will receive the present.

Before recommending some sustainable products to buy for her and for him, I wanted to give you some advice on how to make gifts as sustainable and zero waste as possible.

• You don’t have to buy something new. Start visiting all the second hand stores near you. Perhaps you could find the perfect gift right there and give new life to an object without wasting new resources by buying a new one!
• You don’t have to give material things. Sometimes the person we want to give something has already everything. In these cases why not give him/her an experience? A dinner in a fine restaurant, a trip to an European city, a horse ride; ideas are truly infinite.
• You don’t have to buy gifts. You could try a DIY and make beautiful handmade objects with love. Or you can prepare delicious Christmas cookies and give them to your loved ones.
• Beware of wrapping. Do not use the classic gift paper to pack your gifts because it’s often plastic-coated and not recyclable. As an alternative try to use old newspaper pages embellished with a fabric ribbon or use scarves to pack your gift so those who receive it will have two presents in one!
