The best thrift stores and vintage shops in Munich

Lately I’ve decided to make more sustainable choices also for shopping and clothes. After seeing the documentary The True Cost, I realized how important it is to stop buying from low-cost chains. The alternative is to start buying second hand in trhift stores or vintage shops. I have recently started to approach this world and I love that in these stores you can find really unique things. Last weekend I visited some vintage shops and thrift stores in Munich and I chose my three favorites.

Herrenabteilung/Damenabteilung – Schwanthalerstraße 156, 80339, München

This shop is the most beautiful of all the vintage shops I’ve visited. Upstairs you can buy new clothes from their own collection, while downstairs they have the second hand section with a huge choice for both women and men. Every garment is selected, you will never find crumpled or ruined garments in this store. Here you can find high-end brands alongside with low-cost brands, and surely you can find beautiful and original clothes.

ReSales – Sonnenstraße 2, 80331, München

This is a typical thrift store with several branches in Munich. I visited the one at Karlsplatz and the choice was really huge at really cheap prices. The only drawback is that the garments are not carefully selected and I personally found many clothes not in my style, but looking good you can also find unique items here, paying them much less than a in vintage store.

Pick & Weight – Tal 15, 80331, München

In this shop you pay the clothes according to their weight. Each garment is distinguished by a label with a different color depending on its price per kilo, while the accessories have a fixed price. When you pay according to the weight, the prices are usually not the most convenient but the pieces in this shop are all selected and with a unique style. You can find garments that are hardly found elsewhere, such as vintage clothes but also unique pieces from the USA and Japan. The atmosphere of the store then is very special and it’s really a great experience to sort the clothes in search of treasures.
